Try Freediving

A beginner-friendly introduction to the world of freediving. This course is ideal for curious first-timers who want to experience what it feels like to hold their breath underwater, explore the basics of body positioning, and learn how to relax in a pool setting. All equipment is provided, and no prior experience is required.

Student Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 10 years old

Basic Freediver

This course introduces breath-hold diving and safety techniques in a confined water (pool) environment. You’ll learn how to use freediving equipment, practice static and dynamic apnea, and develop relaxation and breathing strategies that lay the foundation for deeper diving.

Student Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 10 years old

  • Be able to swim 83 feet (25 meters) without swim or buoyancy aids

Freediver Certification

Ready to take your training deeper? This foundational certification combines confined and open water sessions to help you dive safely to depth. You’ll master safety protocols, breath-up and recovery breathing, duck diving, streamlining, and effective finning. This is the first full certification for those interested in recreational freediving or going on to advanced training.

Student Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 12 years old

  • Be able to swim 110 yards (100 meters) without swim or buoyancy aids

Advanced Freediver

Push your limits with advanced depth training, free-fall technique, and pressure adaptation. This course is for certified freedivers who are ready to train deeper, stay down longer, and refine their equalization. Includes advanced theory on human physiology, depth progression, and mental techniques.

Student Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 15 years old

  • Hold a Freediver certification

  • Logged at least 6 in-water freediving sessions

  • Be able to swim 110 yards (100 meters) unassisted

Assistant Freediving Instructor

Start your journey as a professional freediving educator. This course focuses on assistant-level teaching, safety support, student management, and knowledge delivery. You’ll gain hands-on experience supporting certified instructors in both confined and open water environments.

Candidate Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 18 years old

  • Hold Freediver and Training Techniques certifications

  • Logged at least 50 freediving sessions

  • Surface Swim (Unassisted): 440 yards in ≤ 15 minutes

  • Surface Swim (with mask, fins, snorkel): 875 yards in ≤ 15 minutes

  • Tread Water: 15 minutes

  • Meet course-specific performance requirements

Freediving Instructor

Become a fully certified SSI Freediving Instructor and lead your own courses. You’ll learn how to conduct classroom, pool, and open water training, assess student performance, and ensure safety standards. This program is for serious professionals ready to educate and inspire the next generation of divers.

Candidate Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 18 years old

  • Hold Advanced Freediver and Training Techniques certifications

  • Logged at least 100 freediving sessions

  • Surface Swim (Unassisted): 440 yards in ≤ 15 minutes

  • Surface Swim (with mask, fins, snorkel): 875 yards in ≤ 15 minutes

  • Tread Water: 15 minutes

  • Meet all course performance requirements
